What is a ratio?
A ratio compares two quantities by division. For example, the fraction 3/4 is a ratio meaning "3 out of 4 equal parts." Ratios appear everywhere — in recipes, maps, test scores, and even the geometry of circles (π = circumference ÷ diameter).
How do you simplify a fraction?
Find the greatest common divisor (GCD) of the numerator and denominator, then divide both by it. For example, 8/12: GCD(8, 12) = 4, so 8 ÷ 4 = 2 and 12 ÷ 4 = 3, giving the simplified fraction 2/3.
What makes π, φ, and √2 special?
These are irrational numbers — they cannot be expressed as a simple fraction and their decimal expansions never end or repeat. π (≈ 3.14159) relates every circle's circumference to its diameter. φ (≈ 1.618) is the golden ratio found in nature and art. √2 (≈ 1.414) is the diagonal of a unit square.
